PARENTS OF children with autism are hosting an “Autism Masquerade Ball” at the home of Bolton Wanderers Football Club on Saturday 8 April to raise awareness and funds for Autism Support UK.
The evening at Macron Stadium will be headlined by a local band, CasperMason, whose lead singer James Mason has an autism diagnosis himself and has a voice you need to hear!
The theme for the evening is ‘Autism Aware – Behind The Mask’ and will also feature a hot buffet, entertainment, balloon launch, a silent auction, bar areas and a dance floor, plus much more.
Autism Support UK provides support to children all across the North West through their Saturday school.
Toni Howarth from Autism Support UK said: “Despite large organisations spreading autism awareness, sometimes local awareness isn’t as prevalent. Autism Support UK offer support to over 60 children and their parents a year using the fantastic science of behaviour ABA/PBS Positive Behaviour Support to create individualised targets for their children over a 12-week period. It has become a vital support network for autism parents across the North West. Which is why we are hosting this event, so that we can continue all our hard work supporting families and raise awareness of autism.
“There is a growing demand for support required by families with autism, which is why we need to raise awareness locally. We are also reaching out to local Bolton businesses for help, people can help in a variety of ways and we urge anyone who feels they can help autism in their local community to get in touch"
The charity works tirelessly to provide early intervention and raise awareness of autism, but on top of training and workshop funds, they always need materials, such as arts and crafts, and educational resources for their children who attend the school.
Toni added: “The school could not happen without the energy and enthusiasm of local people who volunteer and those that volunteer to run it but I'm afraid enthusiasm alone will not cover the costs which include, behaviourists, publicity, school rental, materials, toys and games, arts and craft materials, training and workshops, uniforms, leaflets, promotional materials and insurance which are raised through local fundraisers and fun runs.
“We are hosting this event to raise awareness and funds in order for us to continue all our hard work supporting families in the North West. With a Masquerade theme we have named the event 'Autism Masquerade Ball' with the tag line 'Autism Aware - Behind the Mask'.
“We are very much looking forward to the evening at Bolton Whites Hotel and we hope as many people as possible get together to show support and spread awareness of autism.”
